My connection to PICC was first sparked by watching a video in my 9th grade Civics class. The video was of two women, both named Barb, speaking so passionately about a brand new center where they cared for medically fragile infants, called Pediatric Interim Care Center. I was hooked and knew that I wanted to be involved at PICC. Less than two weeks later I'd learn that there was also a connection to PICC that I'd not known when it first tugged at my heartstrings, my Grandma, June Leonard. The week after I'd first seen that video, I lost both of my grandmas. At my grandma Leonard's funeral, the same two 'Barbs' from the video appeared and spoke of how my grandma had been one of the people who helped pave the way for PICC. My grief started being replaced with feelings of inspiration & deep gratitude as I was seeing my grandma for the first time through the lens of others and how her care for people and community made such an impact.
Organizing this team for the WALK each year brings me so much happiness! Bringing family and friends together to support PICC and continuing the legacy of serving community and others in honor of my grandma (my Grandpa, Tom Leonard Sr and my mother, Jan Leonard too) is such a joy. I'd love for you to join me, whether walking alongside me or donating in support. Thank you!
